For five decades, Pearl River Mart has been a microcosm of change. From U.S.-China relations to Manhattan real estate to retail trends, the store has always reflected and shaped the society around it.
Our permanent exhibition, curated by Ryan Wong, chronicles those five decades through photographs, newspaper and magazine clippings, and artifacts. From the store’s inception in 1971, to the much-mourned closing of its gargantuan SoHo space in 2016, to its heralded return just a few months later with a new location in TriBeCa and, only a year after that, a second store in Chelsea Market.
The exhibition is open in our TriBeCa gallery every day, 10 a.m. to 7:20 p.m. Admission is free.
