The Tuan Yuan 團圓 Homecoming Box is SOLD OUT! Thank you for your support!
We’re so pleased to be partnering with longtime friend and arts organization Think!Chinatown on their Lunar New Year activities box.
Think!Chinatown is a non-profit based in Manhattan’s Chinatown with the mission to build intergenerational community through neighborhood engagement, storytelling, and the arts. T!C believes the process of listening, reflecting, and celebrating builds the community cohesion and trust necessary to take on larger issues. T!C pushes from within the community to develop better policies and programs that shape public spaces, celebrate the cultural heritage, and innovate how collective memories are represented in Chinatown.
Your purchase of their Tuan Yuan Homecoming Box will go directly toward supporting Think!Chinatown's core mission to build a stronger, more resilient Chinatown. The box is filled with all the materials you’ll need to participate in T!C’s virtual Lunar New Year events. You’ll also receive special gifts in each box, such as storybooks from past T!C storytelling projects and a trio of Taishan teas to brew from the comfort of your home.
You can purchase a box with one or both of these storybooks:
“A Hundred Years More” — Brought to life by the playful illustrations of Artist Yao Xiao, the book captures Chinatown dance teacher Margaret Yuen at the turning points in her life and career. Founder of the Young Dancers of Chinatown in 1979 and the Red Silk Dancers in 1985, Margaret shares Chinese dance with the community, through performances and free classes. Read the story of her fearless pursuit of her artform in New York and China, all to share it with us in Chinatown.
“Here to Stay” — Jan Lee tells the story of his grandfather’s journey from China to Mott Street as a paper son, accompanied by dramatic black and white drawings from illustrator John Lee. The stories include Jan’s personal experiences of growing up in Chinatown and what it’s like to live in the neighborhood today, where he carries on his family’s long legacy as an outspoken community activist. Read this important book to learn more about immigration and American history told through the lens of a Chinatown family with deep roots.
