Mooning Over Moon Gates
Did you know that every time you enter a one of our stores, you walk through a moon gate?
In honor of this Thursday's full moon, we're celebrating the oculus (Latin for "eye"). Also called a moon gate, this architectural element is often seen in traditional Chinese gardens. These entrances are full of meaning. The round shape represent harmony and balance while the moon gate itself symbolizes the full moon and happiness.
We first featured the moon gate design in our beloved Tribeca location (pictured above) followed soon after by our first store in Chelsea Market.

Next was our former location in the Museum of Chinese in America —

Then our current Soho flagship.

Bonus fun fact! The Soho location actually has two moon gates: one on the front window and one as an entryway inside.

Finally was our Tangram pop-up in Queens.

Here’s to hoping all of Pearl River’s moon gates lead to much harmony and happiness!
