Thanks for celebrating Diwali with us!
We had so much fun at our very first Diwali event last weekend. Many thanks to our friends and vendor-partners for gathering with us to share treats and well wishes for the holiday:
Hear a few words from some of them!
Revelers of all ages also had fun coloring gorgeous rangoli patterns. Rangoli are vibrant designs often drawn on the floor or entrances of home, and are thought to attract good luck and prosperity. Materials used for rangoli include flower petals, chalk powder, colored raw rice, raw beans, colorful pasta, rice powder, and salt.
Diwali lasts for five days, Oct. 18 to 22 this year, and on each day are different traditions:
- Day 1 — Clean the house and purchase gold utensils for good fortune
- Day 2 — Decorate the house with rangoli and clay lamps called deepa
- Day 3 — The main day of festivities! Families gather to pray to Goddess Lakshmi, then enjoy feasts and fireworks
- Day 4 — On this first day of the new year, loved ones visit with gifts and best wishes
- Day 5 — Bhai Dooj, a day that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters
