Joanne Kwong with Rosanna Scotto and Curt Menefee on Good Day New York behind Lunar New Year table

Celebrating Lunar New Year with Good Day New York

Much thanks to Good Day New York and hometown legends, Rosanna Scotto and Curt Menefee, for hosting our own Joanne Kwong on Lunar New Year Day. Joanne discussed the meaning of the Year of the Snake, what to do to increase your luck, and traditions like giving out red envelopes. Our favorite old-timey advice book, the Pocket Chinese Almanac, also got a shout out!

Perhaps most importantly Joanne described what lucky foods to eat, including long noodles in Chinese culture, Korean tteokguk or rice cake soup, Vietnamese banh tet, and lo hei or Prosperity Toss, a Cantonese-style fish salad popularized in Singapore and Malaysia (watch the fun toss in action!).

Special thanks to dear friend and news anchor Arthur Chien for thinking of us, and again to Good Day New York, lovely hosts Rosanna Scott and Curt Menefee, and the wonderful crew and staff for making it such a fun day.

Watch the whole segment.
