The Ru Lai Buddha, also known as the Buddha of Sakyamuni, is the founder of Buddhism. He's a primary figure in the religion and is regarded as the Supreme Buddha in most Buddhist traditions.
This Buddha's hands are in the Bhumisparsha mudra or gesture, which represents the moment the Buddha attained enlightenment, or Nirvana, under the Bodhi tree. "Bhumisparsha" translates as "touching the eart" or "calling the eart to witness," and is represented by the hand pointing downward.
