The only designated Chicago landmark in Chinatown, the Pui Tak Center is housed in what was once the On Leong Merchants Association building. While the architecture is thought to be derived from that of Guangdong, China, this isn't true, according to the Chinese American Museum of Chicago. Designed by Norwegian American architects Christian S. Michaelsen and Siguard A. Rognstad in the early 1920s, it more represents "a Westerner’s reinterpretation of Chinese architectural forms."
Despite this, Chicago's Chinatown has reclaimed the building as its own. It's now a community center owned by the Chinese Christian Union Church.
