Tom Kha Coconut Soup masterfully blends the richness of coconut milk, the robustness of galangal (Thai ginger), the fragrance of lemongrass, and the citrusy taste of kaffir lime leaves. With each ingredient carefully selected and mixed with the right balance, this soup offers a traditional Thai way to clear your palate before a heavy meal or to simply enjoy with rice.

Tom Kha is typically cooked with chicken but goes well with seafood-based proteins such as white fish and shrimp and vegetables like mushrooms and cabbage.

  • Ingredients: coconut milk, sugar, salt, galangal, lemongrass, yeast extract, chili, citric acid (E330), kaffir lime leaves

Instructions:

  1. Boil 1.5-2 cups (350-400ml) of water. Add 8 oz (225g) of protein (typically chicken, white fish, or tofu). Certain proteins may take longer to cook, so consider adding some more water if needed.
  2. Add one pack of TAAN THAI Tom Kha Soup Base, already including dried coconut powder and dried Tom Kha herbs (lemongrass, Thai galangal, kaffir lime leaves, and chili), to the pot. (TIP: Thai people usually don't eat lemongrass, Thai galangal, or kaffir lime leaves. These herbs are there for aroma.)
  3. Add any vegetables of your choice (recommend: mushrooms, cabbage, and/or shallots). Stir well on medium heat until everything is cooked.
