Pearl River in 2024: Year in Review

It's that time of year again: looking back and celebrating some of our favorite moments of the past 12 months!

Our first fashion collection of the year was 'all in the family'

Parents with cute little girl on sofa

We kicked off 2024 with a beautiful fashion collection starring Pearl River Mart friends, Amanda, Lester, and their impossibly cute daughter Kyuri. As always the gorgeous pictures were shot by dear friend and fantastic fashion photog, Pascal Perich.

Our first art exhibition of the year was a food photography 'reunion'

Curated by author, chef, and Pearl River Mart Creative Manager Christine Wong, "Reunion: Food as Culture, Community, and Coming Home" featured the gorgeous and mouth-watering work of several talented AAPI food photographers.

We rang in a raucous Year in the Dragon

From an appearance on Cindy Hsu's morning news show to a celebrations at our Soho store, in Chelsea Market, and in Ray's Bar (co-owned by Pearl River Mart friends Justin Theroux) to beautiful dragons at our pop-up location Tangram, we had a rip-roaring Lunar New Year, dragon edition.

We welcomed Banh Mi Daddy and Maxi's Noodle to Little Eats 小吃

We continued our delicious rotation of partners in Little Eats 小吃 Pearl River Mart Foods: first with Banh Mi Daddy from the owners of Tea and Milk and then Maxi's Noodle, home of the ginormous wonton.

We held our annual warehouse sale

Our Queens warehouse doors were opened to the public once again with our annual warehouse sale, complete with fun customers, plenty of haggling, yummy local eats, and even a game or two of mahjong.

We celebrated the publication of Corky Lee's Asian America

This beautiful book dedicated to life and legacy of photographer Corky Lee was published earlier this year, and we had the honor of participating in the launch celebration.

Our AAPI Heritage Month exhibition lauded Anna May Wong

Author Katie Gee Salisbury in the Pearl River Mart Soho gallery for her show Not Your China Doll

Curated by author Katie Gee Salisbury, "Not Your China Doll: A Retrospective of Anna May Wong's Trailblazing Career" was inspired by her biography. Accompanying this fascinating and comprehensive exhibition were two other installations: "Not Your China Doll: Art Inspired by Anna May Wong" in Chelsea Market and "Young Hollywood Was Asian: The Pioneers Who Made Motion Pictures" in the Meatpacking district.

We had a lovely classical evening with WQXR and Met Opera

For the second year in the row, we had the pleasure of sponsoring the WQXR and Met Opera's musical evening in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month.

We hosted our annual Sunset Celebration

We also hosted our own AAPIHM blowout with our third annual Sunset Celebration in Chelsea Market, featuring dozens of AAPI-owned restaurants, small businesses, and brands.

We danced into our summer collection

Much thanks and appreciation again to the Asian American Federation for honoring Pearl River Mart President Joanne Kwong at their annual gala.

We mooned over the Mid-Autumn Festival

We helped our own Christine Wong launch her new cookbook

From photographer Edward Cheng is "Tiny Grains: Chinatown Forever Changed, Forever Changing," which celebrates the venerable neighborhood of Manhattan's Chinatown and those who love it. Accompanying the exhibition is a book of the same name.

We stuffed ourselves silly at the annual Saxelby Fundraiser

And loved every minute of it!

We played ball with the Chinatown Basketball Club

Not really! But we did sponsor their annual Autumn Classic tournament and collab on a cool T-shirt.

We were humbled and honored to be included in New York Nico's Guide to NYC

Nicholas Heller and Joanne Kwong with Nicholas's book

Dear friend Nicholas Heller published this amazing book this year. It showcases his top 100 NYC businesses, including Pearl River Mart (on page 68 if you're curious!).

We hosted a slew of fun activations

We welcomed beauty brand Honey Belle, Sugarcane author Arlyn Osborne, the hosts of the popular Outcasts podcast, Corky Lee's Asian America editors Chee Wang Ng and Mae Ng, and more.

At Pearl River Mart Foods we hosted dozens of tastings from vendors such as Van Van, Mama Lam's, Reprise Health, Doosra, Anna Ye Tea, Tamarind Heads, Chutni Punch, Empress Hot Sauce, Tasting India, Senbird, Lucky Ox, and more.

We totally dropped some new totes and the Best of Pearl River Mart Foods 2024

We launched our last fashion collection of the year with the most stylish family in town

It was such a pleasure to have Kelly, Lillian, and Carl Bit as the models in our last fashion collection of the year.

We had lots of staff shenanigans

Pearl River Mart employees at their annual dinner

Of course we had plenty of employee fun, including our annual dinner, hot pot gathering, and happy hour. Staff Halloween costumes didn't disappoint, and also this year we highlighted some holiday "hoarding" baskets, what PRMers have been planning — in some cases all year! — to buy.

Can't wait to see what 2025 will bring!
