Indonesia Salad with Tamarind Heads BBQ Sauce Dressing

Tamarind-based BBQ sauce? Yes please and thank you. The Tamarind Heads spicy BBQ sauce makes a great base for the dressing that accompanies this asinan sayur or Indonesia salad. Check out the recipe below:

Ingredients (serves 2 to 4)

For the salad

  • 8 oz tempeh, cut into strips
  • 1/4 cup neutral oil 
  • 3 cups finely shredded cabbage 
  • 2 carrots, julienned 
  • 1 cup fresh green beans, cut into 1/4" segments
  • 1 cup chopped cucumber
  • 1/2 cup roasted peanuts, crushed
  • 2 scallions, finely chopped

For the dressing

  • 2 Tbsp Tamarind Heads BBQ Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 lime, juiced 
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 tsp sugar

Recipe

  1. Shallow fry the tempeh in oil in a frying pan on medium high heat for 2 to 3 minutes each side until golden. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl combine the cabbage carrots, beans, and cucumbers and set aside.
  3. Make the dressing in a smaller bowl combining the Tamarind Heads BBQ sauce with water, lime juice, garlic, and sugar.
  4. Add the tempeh, peanuts, and scallion to the salad. Dress and toss well.
